Suisei sighed dejectedly as Kalyptra stormed away from him.  His eyes lingered on the spot Kalyptra was at before she had sharply took a turn into another hallway of the school.

He turned to shut his locker as he thought about what had just happened.  Those thoughts frustrated him, and his gaze into his locker intensified into a glare.  He didn’t understand how the event transpired.  They had just been talking and then all of a sudden it became a full-blown argument.

Slamming his locker door, Suisei uttered under his breath, “Why does Kalyptra have to be so stubborn?”

To emphasize his frustration, he kicked his locker.  Ignoring the slight pang in his foot made by the harsh impact, he trudged down the school corridor.  He ran a hand through his pale hair, sighing, “And why did I have to act like such a fool?”

One thing he knew, though, was that Kalyptra’s friends would be coming to him sometime soon.

~

“That jerk!” Kalyptra grumbled.  “The nerve!”

Kalyptra stomped into the room, apparently vexed, muttering under her breath.

Bam.  She set her things down on the table with a little more power than necessary.

Kalyptra’s friends looked on at Kalyptra’s contained rage with slight worry.  Every once in a while, they would bear witness to Kalyptra‘s hands swipe up into the air as if to strangle someone.  Along with the periodic strangling of thin air, there were also certain words that came from the otherwise normally chipper girl.

“... that inconsiderate....” Mumble, mumble.... “...pigheaded....”  Some more incoherent words. “... why I oughtta....”  Seemed like she was starting with the threats now... “ARGHH~!!”  Kalyptra seethed.

One of Kalyptra’s comrades finally spoke up.  “Damage control?”

Nods answered that inquiry.  The five in that room, not including Kalyptra, divided and parted ways.  One group was to stay and soothe Kalyptra somewhat while the other was to go to Suisei and do something there.

“And to think... that day is just around the corner....”  This murmur was met with several sighs as well as the shaking of heads.

As the group going to Suisei exited the room, they could hear the question, “Do you want to talk about it, Kalyptra?” being asked.

Suisei gulped nervously.  He was wary of going up to Kalyptra in fear of her snapping at him again.  After a few of Kalyptra’s companions had talked with him, he had tried to talk to Kalyptra.

It didn’t go very well to say that least.

He had gone up to Kalyptra, and her friends decided to leave and give them privacy.  As each of them left, though, they each gave him a look that conveyed they hoped he knew what he was saying and that he was going to be tactful.  Most of all, he had to be very, very careful in what he was about to do.

And so Suisei stepped up to where Kalyptra was seated at a table.  He could see she was still mad.  Evidence towards that were the more rapid, jerky movement she made when he moved nearer to her.  As he stopped before her, his eyes widened slightly at the animosity emanating from the female.

What do you want?” Kalyptra hissed.

The scary thing was that her voice didn’t rise at all when she said this.

Almost unconsciously, he had backed up a couple steps.  He opened his mouth to speak, but then closed it, unable to think of anything to say.  Boy, he had really messed up there.

“Well?”  It seemed that Kalyptra didn’t really want to talk to him at the moment.

“Er... um....” he stumbled for words.

Kalyptra then decided to look at him for the first time since he entered the room.

“That is....”  Suisei grew frustrated at his inability to say what he wanted to say and at the whole predicament in general, so he blurted out the first thing that came to his mind, “.... You can’t still be angry, can you?”

.... Not a wise thing he did there.  Not.  At.  All.

Ooh, if looks could kill, Suisei would be six feet under at that very moment, and no one would be able to get him out.

“Angry?” Kalyptra asked lightly.  “No... not angry.  Not anymore.  No.”  Her glare intensified, if that were possible.  “I’m furious.”

His mouth opened and closes; he was gaping.  He had put his foot in his mouth, he realized.

            “Get out.”

Before he could even say, “What?” Kalyptra pointed to the door.

“Get out.”  There was a hard edge to her voice.  “Before I do something I might regret.”

Wordlessly, he obeyed and walked out of the door.

To be greeted with the sight of Kalyptra’s friends all waiting.  They all saw his expression and came to the same (and correct) conclusion.

“You mucked it up, didn’t you?”

            A listless nod.

            A sigh.  “You moron.”

“Well, you can’t do anything anymore.  It’s best to let her cool off for now.”

“Oh, and you may consider doing something for tomorrow to make up.”

“I suggest to go for the norm.”

            He was clueless.  “The norm?”

            “Yes.  Flowers and candy.”

“Especially since tomorrow is Valentine’s Day.”

“Also since she’s been incredibly busy lately, and her fight with you, she may have forgotten what tomorrow is.”

“Or not.  She is a romantic, after all.”

            A shrug.

Suisei just nodded.  He couldn’t even put words and voices to faces.  He was just overwhelmed with the feeling that he had felt incredibly bad (he didn’t know how to phrase it), and he had to fix it.  Things had to be okay with Kalyptra again.  Otherwise, he didn’t what he would do.   Thus, Suisei walked away from the gaggle of girls, thinking over what was said to him.

Now, it led to Suisei cautiously walking up to Kalyptra.  Her back was to him, so she couldn’t see him at the moment.  Suisei fidgeted nervously, shifting the flower bouquet from hand to hand.

Kalyptra’s friends saw him and smiled approvingly at him.  They nudged Kalyptra, and she turned around.  Her eyes narrowed once she saw him but widened as her gaze traveled to the parcel in his hands.  Without her consent, her eyes sparkled slightly.

There were lilacs in the bouquet.  She loved lilacs.

            Questioningly, Kalyptra’s eyes met Suisei’s.

“I wanted to apologize,” Suisei murmured.  “I know I was a jerk, and I shouldn’t have said what I said.  I put my foot in my mouth.  If I could make it up to you, I would.  Would you accept this bouquet as part as my apology?

            “Will you forgive me?”

Her expression softened, and she nodded wordlessly.

An expression of relief and happiness spread across Suisei’s face.  “Happy Valentine’s Day, Kalyptra.”

“Happy Valentine’s Day, Suisei.”  A smile lit Kalyptra’s face.

As the two shared their touching moment, Kalyptra’s friends watched on.  Each held a look of contentment in their eyes at the happy moment.

There was still one question about the whole matter though.

“What were they fighting about?  Does anyone know?”

Several shakes of the head met that inquiry.

            Silence pervaded over them.

            Dot, dot, dot....

Sigh.  Oh well.  What was done was done.

All had turned out well in the end, and that was what mattered.

            Indeed.  That was what mattered.
